David Chan, MD, Vice Chairman


David Chan, MD is the Vice Chairman of Urology for the North Shore-LIJ Health System. He graduated with summa cum laude and distinction from Yale University. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed his urological training at the Johns Hopkins Brady Urological Institute under Dr. Patrick C. Walsh. He joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins as the Director of Outpatient Urology at the completion of his training.

His research has resulted in numerous publications in Journal of Urology and Urology, and book chapters in leading textbooks in Urology. He has presented at national and international Urology conferences. He has trained residents and urologists in the latest surgical techniques and innovative technologies such as Greenlight laser therapy. He has been interviewed by National Public Radio for his work.

His primary clinical interest is in minimally invasive therapies for the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the urinary tract. His particular clinical interests are prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, benign prostate enlargement, and kidney stones. His research is focused on urologic applications of ablative energies, such as high intensity focused ultrasound and radiofrequency ablation.

His primary goal as physician is to improve the quality of life and longevity of his patients.
