Zeph Okeke, MD

 

Zeph Okeke, MD's interests are in the minimally invasive management of complex kidney and ureteral stone disease.  His fellowship training focused on the endourologic management of kidney stones and laparoscopic urologic surgery with Drs. Arthur Smith and Louis Kavoussi.

He completed his Urology residency and served as Chief Resident in the Department of Urology at the New York Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. He was awarded the prestigious Arnold P. Gold Foundation Teaching Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching, and the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award for medical student teaching.  His research during residency was in minimally invasive surgery for kidney stones, cancer and vesicoureteral reflux with Dr.s. Mantu Gupta, Aaron E. Katz & Terry Hensle.  His work has been published in Cancer, Journal of Urology, and Urology.  His research has also been presented at several national urology conferences.

Dr. Okeke earned his medical degree from Cornell University Medical College in New York City. In addition to several scholarships, he was awarded the Arnold Gold Fellowship for his work in mentoring high school students interested in medicine. His medical school research was in the molecular biology of reno-vascular hypertension using mouse models in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Catanzaro.  It was during this time that he developed an interest in urology.

Dr. Okeke's undergraduate degree was in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. During his undergraduate study, he earned the prestigious Outstanding Intern Award for his work as an Engineering Intern with the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation.
