Adrenal Cancer
Overview
Laparoscopic adrenalectomy provides patients with a safe and effective way to remove an adrenal gland. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a minimally invasive technique that has been performed for over fifteen years and provides patients with less discomfort and equivalent results when compared to the traditional open surgery. This technique can be used safely to remove adrenal glands diseased with cancer or causing excess hormone production.
When compared to the conventional open surgical technique, laparoscopic adrenalectomy has resulted in significantly less post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay, earlier return to work and daily activities and a more favorable cosmetic result. Laparoscopic adrenalectomy also has been shown to be equal in cancer control compared to open surgery.
