Robotic radical Cystectomy

When bladder cancer is found to invade deep into the muscle of the bladder, the standard care involves surgery to remove the entire bladder and reconstruct the urinary tract. Robotic radical cystectomy is one approach to this surgery, offering the promise of smaller incisions, reduced bleeding, and potentially faster recovery. Dr. Lee Richstone, Director of Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery at the North Shore Campus of the Smith Institute for Urology, and Dr. Joph Steckel, Vice-Chairman and Urologic Oncologist of the North Shore Campus, lead the robotic cystectomy team, and are the first and only group to perform robotic cystectomy on Long Island.
